WORST PICK IN THE NFL DRAFT (BENGALS)
By Muntradamus
BEAST DOME NATION.
Last season we saw Joe Burrow run for his life week after week, take huge hits week after week. Then one day in Week 11, it all went bad and Burrow took a shot that completely devasted his knee.
Coming into 2021, AJ Green had already decided he was leaving town which left Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins as Burrow’s #1/#2, two great options with great upside. With the fifth pick of the NFL Draft, the Bengals had the chance to grab Penei Sewell, who is basically the clone of Aaron Donald but he plays on the Offensive Line.
With Burrow coming into 2021 with a busted knee, the last thing the Bengals should do is put their superstar investment at any risk of taking another huge shot to his knee. With the number five overall pick, the Bengals select. WR, Ja’Marr Chase. Yes, Chase was a weapon for Burrow at LSU. However there is a larger fundamental issue here. Tee Higgins is ready to blossom as a solid WR in the NFL, and Tyler Boyd is arguably a top 10 slot WR in the NFL. These guys are ready for heavy targets. Yet despite this, they added another weapon for Burrow in the passing game, and one less guy to protect their Franchise QB. Sewell has the stuff to be a Hall of Fame quality player, and the Bengals grabbed a WR who will help this offense look good when it is running smooth.
However running smooth is not always going to be the case for that Offensive Line that still needs a makeover. It is almost like the GM of the Bengals is playing Fantasy Football from a sheep perspective and not looking at the big picture, instead of real Football and realizing anytime Burrow gets hit in the knee, everyone will hold their breath. With that being said, say a prayer for Joe Burrow and his knee this season, the Bengals and Joe are going to need it.
