Fantasy Football: Kicker Draft Guide Strategy 2012

Each day of the week leading up to next Monday I will cover each position of Fantasy Football.  Thursday was going to be WR, but I want to wait to see all of the pre-season action of week 1 first.  So expect a double dose of Kicker and Defense.  To read the entire BEAST DOME FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT GUIDE 2012, follow the link.

 

The Kicker Position in Fantasy Football is All Strategy:

More so then any other position.  No kicker will consistently get you 10+ Points a week, in fact a kicker could go the first 8 games with single digits before breaking out with 25 Points and outscoring Ray Rice in one week.  It’s not about drafting the best kicker, or even playing the best kicker according to all the Rankings.  It is about being smart with your kicker position.

EX:

Tom Brady: 250 Yards. 0 TDs = 10 Points.
Stephen Gostkowski: 5 FGs = 15-25 Points.

Total = 25-35 Points.

or

Tom Brady: 350 Yards. 3 TD = 26 Points.
Stephen Gostkowski: 1 FG. 3 extra Points = 6-8 Points Points.

Total = 32-34 Points.

 

DRAFT A KICKER THAT SUPPORTS YOUR QB:

• I have said it time and time again through the BEAST DOME draft guide.  You need your kicker to support your QB.
• If you have Tony Romo, and the Cowboys flutter in the red zone to take the chip shot FG.  If you own Dan Bailey you essentially get one point less than a TD.  Even if Romo does not cash in on 1st and 10 from the opponents 30, you will get points with the Bailey FG.
• DRAFT THE KICKER THAT SUPPORTS YOUR QB!

 

 

WHAT IF I SLEPT IN MY DRAFT AND THAT KICKER IS GONE:

• Take a kicker that supports one of your RBs.  If you own Willis McGahee, and Matt Prater is still on the board.  Then grab Prater as the same formula comes to mind.  McGahee gets stuffed at the goal line, oh well you get a 3 point FG instead.

 

 

ONE LAST KICKER STRATEGY:

• If the team you are facing has Josh Freeman as their starting QB, and you want to take a chance to have a huge advantage over your opponent.  Use the Kicker for your opponents QB, in this example Connor Barth.  If Freeman fails in the red zone, and Barth chips in a 3 Point FG.  That is a 7 Point swing in your matchup.

KICKERS KICKING INDOORS FOR PLAYOFFS:

 

*It is always a terrible thing to own a kicker like Mason Crosby and the weather is beyond horrible.  He could still make his FGs, but chances are the team will elect to not try FGs over 50 Yards if they are not of a high caliber.  Even someone like Crosby is borderline for those conditions.  If you want to play it safe during the cold December days of HEAVY Snow, here are the indoor Kickers in the playoffs.
