UNDER THE OLAVE TREE (CHRIS OLAVE)

As a Rookie Chris Olave showed a lot of skill and potential. 1,042 Yards while missing two games, but he scored 4 TDs. Now Chris Olave in Year two has all the hype in the world to perform like a 3rd Round Draft Pick in Fantasy Football as his current ADP sits at  #32, and many Fantasy Football sites pick him to perform like a Top 10 WR.

The question we have to ask ourselves is. Why?

Last season Olave had a lot of QBs throwing him the Football, this year the Saints do get an upgrade with Disney Carr (Derek Carr), who you can read all about in this article. 

On paper it looks good that Derek Carr is the QB, but in reality, this situation may be going in the wrong direction. Carr does not like throwing 1 on 1 to his WR on the outside, Carr likes to find mismatches and is not afraid to spread the ball. He also prefers the quick check down if teams give that to him. Olave is the type of WR that takes time to get open down the field, 13 yards and a little comeback route. While Olave does get open from time to time, not everytime. Carr is in no mandatory situation where he must treat Olave like Davante Adams. Before Davante Adams was playing with Carr, Carr has not thrown to his outside WR consistently since Amari Cooper in 2018. 2018! Olave is no 2018 Amari Cooper either, that comparison is laughable.

The big play the Saints made in Free Agency is adding Jamaal Williams. J-Will is a winning Football player, and when the Saints have any lead at all, Williams will be the go-to player in the Saints offense burning that clock. There could be many drives throughout a game where Olave does not get any targets. There could be quarters where he only gets a couple targets. The Saints are in a position to compete for the NFC South, they are not going to be aggressive and throw the ball 35+ times a game and see how many TDs they can score.

Let the sheep take Olave with such a valuable pick. There will be many games Olave fails to do much at all putting him in a place where he would be lucky to get his 2022 rookie year of 72 catches/1,042 Yards/4 TD, which is #22 in standard leagues, he did that on 119 targets. He will be lucky to hit 100 in 2023.

1. Olave will be facing #1 CBs all season long. He is not unstoppable.

2. Carr will not have much trust as you think he will have in Olave. Less targets.

3. Saints are ready to play smash Football with Jamaal Williams when they have any lead.

Let the Sheep take Olave in Round 3.
