I know after my last post I said I would calm it down and not get emotional. After writing and deleting what I really want to say a few times, I will just put it like this. If you are on the Jahmyr Gibbs train, you just bought yourself a one-way ticket straight to last place. Right now Gibbs is going in the 3rd Round of Fantasy Football Drafts, and this pick alone will easily cost you your season if you make it.

The Lions had a great tandem last season with D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams. When the Lions replaced those two with Gibbs and David Montgomery. Everyone is quick to assume that Gibbs is going to be the lead RB similar to Swift, while MontyG is going to just be the goal-line power guy like Jamaal Williams.

After one preseason game it is very clear. David Montgomery is a far superior RB to Gibbs. Now Gibbs is definitely going to play, but not nearly at the snap rate of a 3rd Round Fantasy RB. We could easily see Gibbs be the change of pace and 3rd down RB, even though he missed an easy block in pass protection. Gibbs does have hands, but MontyG can catch as well. Everyone is in love with the shifty/illusiveness that Gibbs brings to the table. The truth is, those moves are not so impressive with NFL-caliber defenders. Those cutbacks might as well be made in quicksand after watching him in his debut.

David Montgomery is one of the most underrated RBs in the NFL. When the entire NFL knew the Bears were not going to throw the ball well for what seems like a decade now, David Montgomery always seemed to still be a productive RB in this league. His power, his hands, this is easily the best offense Montgomery has ever been a part of and he is ready to be the lead RB to take the Lions to the promised land. Which in the Lions case is the Playoffs.

While Gibbs is no slouch, he is definitely no superstar. If the Sheep take Gibbs in the 3rd round, just laugh to yourself. A player who could get 50-60 yards with 0 TD more often than not is what they are taking with that pick. As long as MontyG is healthy.
