BEAST DOME NATION.
Fantasy Football season is upon us. When you are sitting in your draft, you will notice for some reason De’von Achane is ranked as a Top 10 RB in Fantasy Football, and goes in the 2nd round of nearly any draft. You will sit there and think to yourself, how is this possible?
For starters, Mostert is the better RB. There is no denying the fact that Raheem ‘the Dream’ Mostert is the RB who is going to get more touches game in and game out. After rushing for a league-leading and Dolphins Franchise record 18 TDs last season, you can guarantee that Mostert will continue to be the goal line RB as well.
Achane is sexy with his game changing speed which leads to a very inflated almost 8 yards per carry, which includes a game breaking 200+ Yard rushing performance and 2 TDs against the Broncos, where the Dolphins scored 70 Points. While those numbers are amazing, the NFL wised up to Mike McDaniels and his offense to close out the NFL season.
ACHANE WEEK 12-18
The common theme was if the Dolphins did not score 4+ TDs in a game, Achane was likely playing at a RB3 level at best. Tua was not the same QB in the second half of the season, NFL was figuring out McDaniels. The Dolphins choked away their huge lead the AFC East, only to get rocked in ice-cold arrowhead in the playoffs.
You can read my take on Tua, in HOCK TUA article linked here.
The Dolphins offense is no longer the scary offense that was putting up 5 TDs a game until further notice. We have to see it before we can believe it again. Which means Achane should not be drafted as anything more than a very low-end RB2 who has low-end RB1 upside, but pure RB3 reality.
