FANTASY FOOTBALL 2024 BUST OF THE YEAR AFC

JUSTIN HERBERT

By Muntradamus

BEAST DOME NATION.

As I wrap up the AFC portion of BEAST DOME BEAST CAMP, there was a very shocking sight to see. The Chargers over the past few years have built a machinery of an offense that featured Herbert/Ekeler/Allen, and Mike Williams when he was healthy. The group would combine for multiple TDs weekly, and standout Top 10 performances at their positions, often top 5 when everything was clicking.

The Chargers decided, Hey, let’s not do what is working, and let us remove all of Herbert’s weapons. On top of that let us give him two running backs who are not known for catching the ball. Herbert throwing to Ekeler was how they made their living together. Let us give Herbert the two RBs the Ravens no longer need, Gus Edwards, and LORD OF THE BUST J.K. Dobbins now that Derrick Henry is in Baltimore. Let us remove all of Herbert’s weapons in the air mentioned above, including Keenan Allen, whom Herbert had a man crush on. There were few QBs who would target their star WR like Herbert forced it to Keenan. Let us take away his homerun threat in Mike Williams, let us even take Gerald Everett, whom Herbert was building good chemistry within their short time together.

What I just wrote feels like if Cartman from South Park was trying sabotage a Football team. How can you not help but laugh. What in the world is coach Harbaugh doing? Is he going up against Herbert in Fantasy and trying to make him not produce to the level we have been witnessing? On top of all that, I did not even share the best part. Worst part if you are a Chargers or Herbert fan.

The Chargers new OC is Greg Roman. He was the OC for the Ravens when Lamar Jackson was a MVP, he was the OC for the Ravens when Lamar Jackson looked like a real bad QB at times. Needless to say, it was Lamar Jackson who made Greg Roman, not the other way around. Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson are pretty much opposites when it comes to play style. Every time Justin Herbert runs the ball, everyone holds their breath and wants him to avoid all contact. If Herbert gets injured, the season is over, and Herbert does not possess the cleanest bill of health. Lamar Jackson is able to build time with his legs for his weapons to get open, Justin Herbert has WRs who are going to be outmatched, and he will not buy much time. There was no reason for the Greg Roman signing, as he will completely halt the trajectory that Justin Herbert was heading, from a potential Hall of Fame QB, to a Mark Brunell.

The Chargers are no longer an offense that is going to score 3-4 TDs a game. They are an offense that is going to use the run to set up the pass, and the pass will be an efficient quick pass. The days of allowing Justin Herbert to show off what he can do with 45+ pass attempts are over.

If you draft Justin Herbert, you are getting nothing more than a game manager QB. 250+ Yards would be a great performance with this offense. The TDs will be limited, two is what you would hope for in a game, you will likely end up with one TD most weeks. Herbert is a reserve Fantasy QB at best, in a plus matchup he is more of a high-end QB2 than a low-end QB1 as he learns a new system with less talent than he has ever been around. In a bad matchup, Herbert will play like Waiver Wire material, something I would not imagine writing about when talking about Herbert.
