Before the MLB season started, I made a bold prediction that Austin Wells was going to be a great player to draft. You could get him around pick #317 in your Fantasy Baseball Draft, well towards the very end. The season started and Jose Trevino got way too much playing time. Finally teams decided to show that Trevino is not the same defensive catcher after wrist surgery and started stealing on him time after time. Then a quad injury injured Trevino, and now Austin Wells has had the catcher job to himself.

Not only has Austin Wells performed so well in the last 21 Days, Austin Wells is performing like a Top 5 Catcher in Fantasy Baseball, and hitting cleanup for the New York Yankees.

Imagine getting a Top 5 Catcher, and the cleanup hitter for the Yankees in the 30th Round of your Fantasy Baseball Draft. Only BEAST DOME was promoting Austin Wells.

The current odds for Austin Wells to win AL Rookie of the Year is +500. Only Cowser/Langford/Gil sit in front of him.

Vegas wants to give it to Langford, but he is simply just not that good and I always thought overhyped. In a full season so far, Langford sits at 6 HRs which is really bad for an everyday player who is supposed to be a good hitter. Add in the fact he is hitting .242, how can they give it to Langford?

Gil who has always been tight in the race has not been dominant since May of this year. He is starting to pitch a bit better, but as we have seen over history time after time, Rookie pitchers arms tend to fade down the stretch. With Gil having such a heavy workload all season long really carrying the Yankees staff at times, if he collapses a few more times like he did in July with a 6.45 ERA, there is no shot he gets this award.

Cowser is the current leader, and he does somewhat deserve it at this point. He has 16 HRs and is starting to get really hot and is now hitting leadoff for the Orioles. With that being said, let us not forget he hit .182 in June and .188 in May. One slump like that before the season is over and he has to fade out. Let us also remember, Orioles can win just as many games with or without Cowser’s presence in the Outfield.

Austin Wells is playing the hardest defensive position (catcher) he is leading the Yankees pitching staff through a crucial stage of the season, he is batting cleanup, he is hitting over .300 with good power since taking over for an injured Trevino, (Yankees should have been playing Wells all along over him. This reminds me of Kenneth Gainwell getting playing time over D’Andre Swift last season).

Wells sits at 8 HRs, Cowser is at 16. Cowser does have 100 more at-bats, but Wells is a catcher for crying out loud! Momentum is on #28 Austin Wells’s side. The ticket has so many 8’s on it because his Spring Training number was #88.When Austin carries this momentum and takes the Yankees to the Playoffs. The ticket above is cashing mid-November.
