Fantasy Baseball 1st Week of Spring Training (RECAP)
Fantasy Baseball 1st Week of Spring Training (RECAP)
By Muntradamus
One Week of Spring Training is in the books. Time to reflect from a fantasy baseball perspective. I am preparing for high stakes baseball leagues, if you read my note you will be ready to dominate your draft.
VALUE UP
Hunter Pence (OF) PHI
Pence knocked HR’s in back-to-back games to start the Spring. In line for a big season as the Phillies will need his bat.
Alex Rodriguez (3B) Yankees
A-Rod is now the leader of this team, he seems to be getting RBI chances every game, already went yard.
Edwin Jackson (SP) Nationals
Two strong starts and that is 6 shut-out innings to start the Spring. Playing for the Nationals should give him an ample amount of win opportunities.
Ryan Roberts (3B) D-Backs
3 HR’s, 6 RBIs. Huge start to the Spring of a guy who can easily hit 20 Bombs this season.
Jemile Weeks (2B) Oakland
Should get an ample amount of opportunities for runs. Also has pop.
Francisco Liriano (SP) Twins
Looks like he has back to his old self with a 5 K performance in 3 INN.
Josh Beckett (SP) Red Sox
Two good starts with no ER. He will go later than he should.
Madison Bumgarner (SP) Giants
9 Ks in 5.2 INN, ready to break out.
Eric Sogard (SS) A’s
A little bit of pop, a little bit of speed. Chances are he will find a way to beat out Cliff Pennigton at some point this season.
Brandon League (RP) Mariners
Flawless Spring. He goes late, and he should hold onto the closer job all season.
Chris Snyder (C) Astros
3 HR’s this Spring has him the front runner to hold onto the Catcher job. He has a lot of power potential.
Daniel Bard (RP/SP) Red Sox
Two great starts shows he is ready to be a solid starter with a lot of run support.
Billy Butler (1B/DH) Royals
Butler has always been a good average hitter, but now showing some pop this Spring with 2 Bombs.
Alfonso Soriano (OF) Cubs
3 HR’s already this Spring, his bat is catching fire on the weekend.
Michael Pineda (SP) Yankees
Bit of control problems, but when he is on the wins will come in bunches.
Dustin Ackley (2B) Mariners
Hits in 4 straight games to go along with a HR, 3 RBI, SB. Those numbers will get the job done.
Jonathan Papelbon (RP) Phillies
Flawless Spring with 2 shutout INN.
Corey Lubeke (RP/SP) San Diego
4 K’s in 2 INN will get everyone excited about his very high K potential.
Shin Soo-Choo (OF) Indians
20/20 Machine already has 2 HR’s this Spring.
Alex S. Gonzalez (SS) Brewers
3 Game hitting streak with a HR, and 5 RBIs.
Delmon Young (OF) Tigers
Already with 2 HR’s this Spring, Young will get an ample amount of RBI’s batting 5th behind Prince.
Dee Gordon (SS) Dodgers
3 SB’s this Spring. They all came towards the end of the week.
Yovani Gallardo (SP) Brewers
4 Ks in a flawless 2 INN. This guy is unhittable when he is on.
VALUE DOWN
Ubaldo Jimenez– WHIP over 3 to start the Spring.
Tim Lincecum– Two starts where neither was flawless including a 5 ER blow up in 2 INN.
Grant Balfour– 5 ER in 3 appearances. No way he holds onto closer job in Oakland.
Jair Jurrjens– Two bad starts including one with 6 BBs.
Carlos Marmol– The explosion of 4 ER in 2/3 of an INN is a bad sign.
Frank Francisco– ER in each appearance. He will not hold onto the closer job all season long for the Mets.
NOTES:
Prince Fielder– Got the first HR with a new team out of the way.
Albert Pujols– Got the first HR with a new team out of the way.
Yoenis Cespedes– Got the HR in his first game. Could be ready to explode.
Yu Darvish– 3 K’s in 2 Innings shows he has potential to be big. It was against SD.
Gio Gonzalez– 3 INN, H, 2 Ks. I like Gio to be a fantasy monster and possibly a 10 Fantasy pitcher.
