MOST IMPORTANT FANTASY BASEBALL NEWS MON (4/1)

 

– It did not take long for Carlos Marmol owners to remember why they were afraid of drafting him in the first place.  With a 3 run lead, Marmol decided to make it interesting giving up an ER in 1/3 of an INN.  He was pulled with a runner 1st and 1 out with the lead at 3-1, Fujikawa got the save.

Analysis: Marmol is going to remain the closer according to terrible Cubs management.  It will not take long for Fujikawa to be the Cubs closer at this rate.

 

Last season John Axford was blowing games left and right.  Opening day of 2013 with a 1 run lead, Axford was able to strike out the #8 and #9 Hitter before giving up a solo HR Dexter Fowler.  The roller coaster begins, his leash is much longer than Marmol’s.

Analysis: Just hope things get better for Axford before they get any worst than this.  He did get 3 Ks which some what softens the blow.

 
Phil Coke will have you doing lines for at least Day 1.  The Tigers really have no solid option, and Coke did get the matchups down the road to get the last 2 outs for the save.  It will be interesting to see what Leyland does when righties come up at the end of the game.

Analysis: If you have someone to drop in a league where you need a closer, he can be a speculation add.  I expect it to be a full on committee making Coke more of a headache to own than anything.

 

Ryan Ludwick started out the season with the best OBP% in Fantasy Baseball, but then he injured his rotator cuff.  He will go on the DL, and likely for a long time which means you can waive him in all leagues.

Analysis: If this is a serious rotator cuff injury you can forget about Ludwick for the rest of 2013.  If it is nearly a mild sprain and he just needs to rest on the 15 day DL, he could still bounce back strong.

 

Ernesto Frieri got the save in the debut.  Angles decided to hold him deep into extras to get the save.  While the saves are looking good now, Ryan Madson should get this job as soon as he is 100%.  Ernesto did not have a great Spring, and he did unwind to close out the 2012 Season.

Analysis: Frieri is nice now, will be waiver wire material by the end of April.
