This is a strategy that could ruin your Fantasy Football season if you do not follow it.  You have two choices with your Kicker.  

 

QB/K COMBO STRATEGY

or

SUNK YOUR BATTLESHIP

You can read the links to learn more about each strategy.  But let’s do an example that already granted many Fantasy Owners a great chance for a Win in Week 14 with the Thursday Night game.

PEYTON MANNING = 15 Points in Standard Leagues.
MATT PRATER = 15 Points in Standard Leagues. 

QB/K STRATEGY WOULD SAY TO OWN BOTH MANNING/PRATER

If you started Peyton Manning, and you did not have Matt Prater when he was on the wire.  You likely hurt your chances of winning this pivotal matchup.  Thus you should have done the QB/K Combo Strategy.

 

SUNK YOUR BATTLESHIP STRATEGY WOULD SAY TO START PRATER IF YOU WERE PLAYING AGAINST MANNING.

If you were playing against Peyton Manning, and you added Matt Prater as part of the “SUNK YOUR BATTLESHIP” strategy.  You now have a Kicker who has just as many points as your opposing QB.  Looking good for the W when that happens.

 

Conclusion

If you are playing against a QB, whose Kicker is Ranked within the Top 15.  Add that Kicker.  Regardless of starting him or not, do not even let your opponent think about adding him.  Play each Week to win Now!

 

Q&A

QUESTION: What if your QB/Kicker is on the waiver wire, and your opponents QB/Kicker is also on the wire?

ANSWER: Always go with your Kicker first.  But if your kicker is not Ranked in the top 18, you are really rolling the dice.  If your QB/Kicker is not on the wire, or your opponents QB/Kicker.  Go with the highest rated Kicker I have on my Week 14 Rankings.

    I used this strategy Thursday night and started Prater. My opponent had Manning & Moreno. I’m in position to get the W against the #1 seeded team due to your “sunk your battleship” strategy!

    Thanks again for all your advice. I have a dilemma on my hands with this whole QB/K strategy. What would you do if you had a QB/K combination such as Tony Romo/Dan Bailey and also had Josh Freeman and Adam Vinatieri on your bench? Your rankings have my bench players ranked higher this week. Should I do the QB/K strategy or follow your rankings?

  3. While pairing your qb/k is a great fail-safe strategy, which is arguably the most important kind of strategy for the playoffs, it can also limit your total scoring potential. For instance, I have Tom Brady and Matt Bryant, now if Tom goes off for 4 tds, while Matt Ryan has red zone troubles leaving Bryant for 4 fgs, I just scored big with both players, while gostkowski was limited by Tom’s efficiency. But it’s a risk/reward scenario, and I may face Ryan in the championship eventually as well.

  4. What should I do… I have Aaron Rodgers and Crosby is on the Wire. But my kicker is Matt Bryant and he has been a beast this year! And Crosby… well he has absolutely sucked!! Even when Rodgers has a bad game so does Crosby. I’m afraid of adding him cause how many field goals he misses.
    Maybe I should drop Alex Green or Jacquizz Rogers for Crosby?

  5. I have same dilema as jt1432. Rodgers/Crosby pair. Go for it or pick up higher ranked K. Crosby has a game @CHI and 2 @GB. Weather a factor?
