FANTASY BASEBALL AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
AUSTIN WELLS VOL. III
By Muntradamus
BEAST DOME NATION.
On Wednesday as Aaron Judge a BEAST DOME LEGEND hits HR #300, the fastest player to ever do it. Austin Wells follows up the at-bat with a HR himself. Austin Wells also drove in two huge runs with the scored tied 2-2 in the 7th Inning with 2 Outs and 2 Strikes, Wells hits a 2 run single to give the Yankees a 4-2 Lead.
One week ago, Vegas put Austin Wells at +500 Odds to win AL ROY. One week later, Wells is now +850. These odds are actually great odds if you want to ride the BEAST DOME Rookie of the Year wave together. Let me explain.
THREE MAN RACE
Colt Keith/Wyatt Langford/Rafaella, they are all out of it. They have not performed well enough statistically and struggling on a team likely not making the playoffs. The three contenders below are all players on teams battling for the top spot in the American League.
COLTON COWSER – 330
Cowser has a very inflated lead. He had back-to-back games with a HR last week to push his total to 18, but in the process his batting average dropped hitting .187 in the last week, and he has done nothing besides those bombs. His numbers are not really impressive. 18 HRs over a full season, that is not even Top 50. Nothing special about Cowser, Orioles would win just as many games without him. In fact if Cowser struggles back-to-back years he could easily have another David Dhal short lived type of career. Would not buy Colton Cowser Rookie Cards I will tell you that.
LUIS GIL +450
The wheels are falling off for Gil. I was considering taking him as insurance to Austin Wells, but the reality is Gil may not make it the rest of the season. He has been impressive overall, mostly to start the year, and maybe he does somehow sneak out the award despite pitching below average the last few months of the season. Getting shelled against the White Sox does not help and he cannot afford to let that happen again, okay maybe two more times. Gil can still steal the award and projecting out the rest of his starts (DET/COL/STL/CHC/BOS/OAK/PIT) those are some great opportunities for him to finish strong. Then again, if he struggled against the White Sox, maybe all those teams can hit him.
AUSTIN WELLS +800
Wells has to hold the keys to his destiny. If the Yankees played him every day, like they should have before the Trevino injury, Wells would be the favorite. Yankees have found their cleanup hitter, he is coming up with clutch hits and his numbers are reflecting it. He is also measuring out as one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. He has a higher WAR than Adley Rutschman. Austin Wells is hitting .300+ in the last week with 9 RBIs and an HR. He has been way more valuable to his team than Colton Cowser.
At the end of the day, Austin Wells is swinging a hot bat. If you read my preseason article, I always loved his power, when his hot swing and power show against weak Detroit Pitching over the weekend, his stock will rise.
