A great show from the 90s starring Tim Allen where he had a Family, and did a Home Improvement Television show where he was a big hot shot called, “Home Improvement.” One of Tim Allen’s sons in the show was the young hotshot actor that every 13-year-old girl fell in love with, Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

Fast forward to the year 2020 and now we have fallen in love with a 20 Year Old Running Back named Jonathan Taylor. You see the connection? Welcome to.

The Colts offense last season under Jacoby Brissett was more or less last mand standing. WRs were going down, RBs were going down. At the end of 2019, Colts WR Zach Pascal was a name on the tip of almost every Fantasy Owners tongue when discussing a Waiver Wire option. Now in 2020 it is no longer the Jacoby Brissett era, instead, it is the Texas Chainsaw Gun Slinger in Philip Rivers.

The first big move the Colts did under Rivers new regime is draft Jonathan Taylor.

Ya I’m pretty excited myself. This guy looks like Saquon Barkley type of talent no doubt about it. However what is a Doubt, is where Jonathan Taylor is being drafted. I have seen him selected as early as the 2nd Round, gone by the 4th Round for sure in 12 man leagues.

Ridiculous, sheep, thinking.

First thing is first. Marlon Mack was a superstar last season. If it was not for a hammy injury, Marlon Mack was carrying the Colts to a potential playoff spot by himself. Mack continues to show breakaway speed even when there is no breakaway in front of him. Mack can break tackles, he can do it all and is a 1,000 yard Running Back.

Second thing second. Nyheim Hines. Now Hines may not be a great Running Back, but he is a great Darren Sproles 3rd Down RB. When the Colts are in passing situations, Hines understands how to read the situations very well and his speed gets him respectable PPR numbers.

Granted that Jonathan Taylor is the better Runningback of all three no doubt about it. I mean that power, that size, that speed. The guy is a truck and it is amazing he was not drafted earlier in the real NFL Draft. How can you not get excited watching him run!?

With all that being said. The Colts offense is going to be a RBBC, especially in a Covid season where the game experience will not come until Week 1, and it may take a month before Taylor becomes the lead RB. If Marlon Mack is running strong to start the season, the Colts are going to be running Marlon Mack hard. Taylor will be the change of pace, and JT has to outshine Mack in order to get that lead RB role. Forget about 3rd down, Hines already has that locked up.

Knowing that it may take a month for Taylor to start his journey of a 15+ carries a week RB. Why would you invest an early draft pick on him? Starting out your Fantasy Football season 0-4 because you are getting less than 5 points a game from your 4th Round Pick? Might as well pack in the season at that point. Have to run the table and there is also no guarantee that Taylor even gets those 15+ Carries after one month into the season.

Talk about High Risk/Medium Reward. Best case scenario, Taylor is the guy after a month and you have a RB1 that you drafted in Round 3 or 4 (ADP #33). I got news for you, there are better RBs that go in those Rounds or even later that do not carry that risk at all. One day Jonathan Taylor will be a 1st Round Pick in Fantasy Football Drafts, however, that day will not be in the year 2020.
