The Football Season seems its like right around the corner, but we still are 3+ Months away. Regardless now is a good time to look at each team and rate their offense, defense, and figure out what Fantasy Players to target in your league.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
OFFENSE (C)
The Jay Cutler experience is over, Ryan Tannehill (QB3) returns to QB another season for the Dolphins. No more Jarvis Landry who is on the Browns, so that means DeVante Parker (WR3) has some big shoes to fill. Shoes that the Dolphins have been waiting for him to fill for some time. The other options is the deep ball Kenny Stills (WR5), which will likely not be a favorable option consider the Dolphins O-Line took a big hit losing Pouncey, and the Ex-Patriot Danny Amendola (WR4). Amendola should see a lot of targets this year, almost running a Jarvis Landry type of short yardage WR. While it sounds nice on paper, the Dolphins passing game does not seem that strong. I can see a lot of incomplete passes to Parker down the field, we can see a lot of sacks from the bad O-Line play. They did bring in Mike G. at TE (TE3), the first TE off the board. However he reminds me of Dallas Clark, and with the O-Line not strong he will be blocking.
If the Dolphins try to run the ball, Kenyan Drake (RB3) is a nice talent, and Josh Sitton will open up holes. However the Dolphins cannot run when they are losing football games. The Dolphins also brought in Frank Gore (RB5), and before you get too excited he is on a last place Football Team, which is nothing new for him, and that means his role will likely be mentor more than anything.
DEFENSE (B-)
While the Dolphins did lose Suh, they did gain Robert Quinn. Throw in Cameron Wake and the Dolphins have two guys who can easily get double digit sacks on the outside. The DT situation is not horrible, brining in Akeem Spence could ignite either Godchaux or Jordan Phillips to emerge as a strong play. Good news is they have lots of depth at both DE and DT.
Starting at MLB is Kiko Alonso for the 3rd Straight year. Back-2-Back years he recorded 115 Tackles, and without Suh that number should rise as he will be needed to step up a lot more. Great solid safe MLB in IDP Leagues. The OLB situation is still unclear, whatever the Dolphins do it does appear they will go young in that position. I would like to see Stephone Anthony return to form, he has a lot of upside but the Dolphins seem not to be too fond.
Secondary, the Dolphins are as strong as a team can be when it comes to their safety play. Reshad Jones and Rookie 1st Round Pick, Top DB in College, Minkah Fitzpatrick should be a great combo. While the combo is great, the CB situation is horrible. So horrible, that I do not think it matters that they have Jones and Fitzpatrick as there will be open WRs too often.
With that being said, the Dolphins D-Line is very explosive. Which means QBs will not have a lot of times to find the right WR, but the CB play is not that great. Teams can run on the Dolphins often to try to set up 1 on 1 situations. Whenever a QB has a 1 on 1 against the weak Dolphin Corners, that is where the ball will go.
I am giving them a B-, but if they had two studs at CB, they could be A-.
