Fantasy Football: IDP Sleeper of the Year Cap’n Meco
(DeMeco Ryans)
By Muntradamus
Before I say anything. DeMeco Ryans is an Eagle, that is the only picture I can access as of now on my database, and I am sure you rather hear the news than not see a picture of him at all.
The best players to get in IDP league are the middle linebackers (LB) that are involved in every play. Players like Ray Lewis, D’Qwell Jackson, and Patrick Willis are the big names that come to mind.
But what about that sleeper MLB that nobody is thinking of, who you can grab at the end of your draft and possibly play like a top 5 option.
That player my friends is…
IDP SLEEPER OF THE YEAR:
DEMECO RYANS – PHI – M(LB)
Muntdramaus Expert Rank: #7 LB
Average Expert Rank: #30 LB
DeMeco Ryan came into the NFL in 2006 out of Alabama where he was a star among stars.
2006: 156 Tackles. 3.5 Sacks. 1 INT. 1 FF. (Defensive Rookie of the Year)
2007: 127 Tackles. 2.5 Sacks. 1 INT. 1 FF. 1 DTD. (Pro Bowl)
2008: 112 Tackles. 1 Sack. 2 FF.
2009: 123 Tackles. 1 Sack. 1 FF.
Then in 2010 Cap’n Meco ruptured his Achilles. His season was cut short after 6 games where he already had 54 tackles. Well on pace for 100+.
In 2011 DeMeco Ryans came back to play one of the ILB spots in the Texans 3-4 defense (They were playing a 4-3 during all the great seasons.) Between not being 100%, and not being comfortable in the defense. Ryans only recorded 64 tackles and 1 FF in 16 games.
Now DeMeco is playing with the Eagles (4-3 Defense.) A team that has Elite corner backs, a great defensive line. But no Linebacking core at all. DeMeco should absolutely eat up tackles like it’s nothing.
IF Ryans does not get 100+ Tackles I would be extremely surprised. He can easily get back to 120 with the Eagles.
DeMeco Ryans makes the Eagles a legitimate contender to win the Superbowl now that they have one of the best underrated Middle Linebackers in the game.
FULL IDP RANKINGS will be out next week, as well as all other updated positional Rankings.
