Fantasy Basketball Draft Strategy (2012-2013):
X-Factor Part. I
By Muntradamus
BEAST DOME NATION.
We still have some time before Fantasy Basketball season gets going. But it is never too early to look at some potential X-Factors that could make a huge difference in your Roto or H-2-H leagues. In this article I will highlight four players that I would circle on my cheatsheet.
FANTASY BASKETBALL DRAFT GUIDE VOL. I
FANTASY BASKETBALL MOCK DRAFT VOL. I
MO WILLIAMS – G – UTA
What makes Mo special is a few things.
1) He can make it rain from the 3PT line any night.
2) He qualifies at both PG/SG.
3) He should get plenty of assists playing with the big men in Utah.
Mo is going to be a great player to own this season because the Jazz need their PG to not only run their offense. They need them to be an aggressive shooter when teams double Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap/Derrick Favors down low. If your league has an emphasis on position-by-position players. Mo is a great option to give you an extra PG who qualifies at SG.
SERGE IBAKA – F/C – OKC
What can Serge do for you?
In the month of February last season he had three game with 10 Blocks or more. That was no fluke as his pace of blocking shots like a human Pogo stick continued throughout the season. In the month of April he averaged over 4.7 Blocks a game. Although he will rarely score 15 Points in a game (more like 9). He is an X-Factor with his Block Shot Domination.
Last season coach Brooks inexplicably played Serge for less than 20 Minutes some night. Even when he was not in foul trouble. Nobody can really question the moves because they still were the team that represented the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. But you have to think the Thunder will use Serge more consistently as his potential has no ceiling.
J.R. SMITH – G/F – NYK
J.R. is a Fantasy Dream & Nightmare combined into one.
J.R. is a headache to own because some nights he will take his shots as if he were Steve Blake. Other nights he will take his shots as if he is better than Michael Jordan ever was. I am the biggest J.R. Smith not only because I like watching him play..
But because there will be nights where he knocks down 7 3PTM in one game. He is the Devery Henderson of Fantasy Basketball (Some Nights not much, other nights he will be your MVP). Why not take a stab at J.R. at the end of your draft? Right now he is fighting for a starting spot, but let’s remember this is an 82 game season. Injuries and drama is sure to occur throughout.
ANTHONY DAVIS – F/C – NO
Hype.
Is an understatement when talking about Davis this season around the Fantasy Basketball World. So much hype that I have seen him get snagged in the 2nd Round of some mock drafts. “The Flying Stick” has Serge Ibaka block potential, and he plays on the worst team in the NBA. What that means is a few things.
1) Will get plenty of PT all season long (35+ Minutes a Game).
2) Will likely be their go-to scorer at some point as the Hornets prepare their Future.
I like Davis, but I am afraid burning a 2nd round pick on a player like Davis instead of going with a proven star could come back and haunt me. RGIII had a lot of hype, he went after the 10th round in some drafts. The Proven veteran star is always more safe than the rookie 8x out 10. This will not be the last time this preseason you read about him from me. I can guarantee that.
There are plenty of more of these X-Factors. I will be pacing articles throughout the preseason as we get closer to start of the season. If you would like my assistance for your draft, or as a coach/scout you can always sign up for a VIP Package.

In the Finals (last scoring period of playoffs) Serge Ibaka single-handedly outblocked my whole team. Enough blocks to start a neighborhood ahahah! In my drafts it seems like the first 12 picks are easy and the last one … I never know who to get! Usually Beasley, Hickson, JR Smith etc are still available. More than I can name actually. There has got to be more good finds below the top 120… but what are they?
Can you please help rank the following point guards in an order that i should be drafting them by. Thanks That would be very helpful to my upcoming draft
Darren Collison
Jrue Holiday
George Hill
Kyle Lowry
DJ Augustine
Raymond Felton
Mo Williams
Jose Calderon
Tony Parker
Damien Lillard
Jeff Teague
I also wanted to add Mike Conley into the list
Any help would be appreciated
